Sharon Graff to be honored
Sharon Graff, founder and president of TLC for Kids Inc., has been selected as the 1990 Missouri Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
In announcing the award, Bob Andrews, district director of the SBA's St. Louis office, described the award as one given to outstanding young business owners under the age of 30 who have achieved unusual business success as measured by sales, profits, or employment growth.
In 1985 Graff formed a company to provide "child care" service for working mothers. The company initially had three services: babysitting, nanny placement and sick child care with nine caregivers on call. Today there are approximately 100 caregivers on call. She averages seven permanent placements per month and has increased services to include group care, residential and pet sitting, hotel sitting, seminars on child care options and selection, training for child care givers, newborn care and companion placement for the elderly.
In August 1988, Graff opened a second office in Kansas City.
In 1989, she established a second company, Fam-Link, to provide dependent care benefit packages for corporate clients.
As the Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Missouri, Graff will be honored during National Small Business Week, scheduled for May 6-12. The week-long celebration, featuring special events each day of the week, culminates with the Annual SBA Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 11, where Graff will be honored along with other special award winners.
