TLC's Doula Service Start-Up Kit

The Doula, Greek for "woman who serves women," is a postpartum caregiver specially trained to give new mothers the assistance and mothering they need.  In addition to teaching basic baby care skills like bathing, umbilical cord care, circumcision care, breast-feeding, and swaddling, Doulas also prepare meals, do light housekeeping, run errands and care for older siblings. Their purpose is to boost a mother's strength and confidence while keeping the household running smoothly.

The TLC Doula Service is the labor of love developed by Melanie Osborn, TLC 8-year veteran and mother of 3, and TLC's owner, Sharon Graff-Radell, mother of 2.  The development entailed seven months of researching and developing a unique and desperately needed service.  All of the TLC nanny forms, contracts, applications, and procedures needed to be completely revamped and a specialized training program developed.  Because the "Doula" concept was virtually unheard of in St. Louis, an entire public relations strategy and marketing program were also developed.

To date, we have fine-tuned the program to be extremely successful and lucrative. It has opened the doors to contacts with hospitals, OB-GYN's, location consultants, and more. As a result,  TLC has increased its visibility and gained respect in the community and has truly positioned itself as a leader in the in-home child care industry.

A Doula Service is an excellent way to expand. The start up costs are relatively low, while the payback, including the publicity and financial gain, make it very worthwhile. TLC experiences a 40% retention of Doula clients who go on to use our other services and some have become repeat Doula clients.

The price for the package is $1000. And includes the operations Manual, the Doula Training Program and exam, all the forms used with the TLC Doula Service and one hour of consultation with Ms. Graff-Radell.  The forms are intended for use as a blueprint for you to create your own forms.
